The life cycles of SBR rubber: from car tyre to fitness floor

3 June 2024

SBR rubber, originally made from recycled car tyres, is given a new life through a wide range of Relife® rubber products thanks to the collaboration between GreenMatter and CERU. These products are 100% recyclable at the end of their useful life, thus keeping the circle closed.

In cooperation with CERU, we have taken the initiative to give new life to the rubber from artificial grass pitches that are at the end of their lifespan. SBR rubber infill was always by far the most commonly used infill material for artificial grass pitches. From 2023, the use of microplastics, including recycled material (SBR) in artificial grass pitches will be banned. This is with an eight-year transition period. This ban means that if the SBR rubber, from artificial grass pitches that are at the end of their lifespan, can no longer be reused in new pitches, a sustainable use will be lost as well as a surplus.

The rubber infill material, originally manufactured from recycled car tyres, is now given a new purpose with the Relife® range of rubber products. Exceptionally sustainable rubber solutions that not only last a long time, but are also 100% recyclable at the end of their useful life.
