What will the sports park of the future look like? (3/3) Terrace

28 May 2026

Can a terrace at a sports ground also contribute to a greener and more future-proof living environment?

At GreenMatter, we believe that every square metre of a sports ground offers opportunities to be designed in a more sustainable and future-proof way.

Third concept: the circular and climate-adaptive terrace

A terrace is much more than just a place to sit. It is a meeting place for athletes, volunteers and visitors. By combining circular materials and climate-adaptive solutions, an attractive outdoor space is created that can withstand more extreme weather whilst giving worn-out artificial turf pitches a new lease of life.

Four sustainable elements come together in this concept:

  • Ecoraster tiles allow rainwater to infiltrate directly into the ground, helping to reduce flooding and heat stress.
  • Picnic tables and benches are made from recycled artificial grass, allowing valuable materials to be reused in a high-quality application.
  • Solar lighting provides atmospheric and energy-efficient lighting without the need for a mains connection.
  • Green planters and trees provide shade, increase biodiversity and make the terrace a pleasant place to meet and relax.

The result is a sustainable terrace that encourages socialising whilst contributing to water management, material reuse and a greener living environment.
