The plastic waste mountain continues to grow unabated, as sales of recycled raw materials stagnate.
We recently organised the knowledge session ‘The need for a circular approach’ together with Edel Grass and Re-Match. Unfortunately, despite our joint efforts to create this awareness, Re-Match – one of our suppliers of recycled raw materials – was recently declared bankrupt. A sad event for all involved.
With this bankruptcy, the need to raise awareness among all stakeholders is now all the more apparent. After the arrival of recycling factories, the sports sector thought that recycling of worn artificial grass pitches would be settled. Not so! The recycled raw materials remain lying around because there is too little demand for them and despite the raw materials policies of 2030 and 2050, ‘cheaper’ alternatives are still mostly chosen.
Only with each other and a proactive approach can we close the circle. We continue our mission with confidence and motivation. In doing so, the Dutch raw materials policy remains our dot on the horizon, with the aim of reducing the artificial grass waste mountain.
